Regrets Leaving Military Service to Pursue Civilian Career?

This is obviously geared more towards any veteran or still active duty monkeys out there. I just hit my final year in the military and it just started to feel real. Although I've been in business school for a year while on active duty (thanks to a great and accommodating command that gave me modified role to go to school) it all just kind of hit me. Outside of the first 9 months in the service, I've had an extraordinarily positive experience during my time in and now I'm starting to feel like I'll miss it a lot once I'm out and back working a civilian job. So I just wanted to know if any other veteran or active duty folks out there feel/felt similarly.

At points yes. However, I went from a battalion PIR Task Force that was expanding to a BCT in 05 to a division and the differences were very noticeable. I hated the division dog and pony bullshit as well as the slower training schedule. If I was going to stay in I would've had to reup for SF. Ultimately, I am very happy I got out. The army definitely sucked and it is always easy to remember the cool shit. I would not have done well with women in the infantry and do not see how the units I was in would be any different.

Be happy that they actually let you use your education benefits while you are in. I had an XO that lined up college courses for those interested. It is free while you are in, but good luck finding the time. For awhile they were using the ability to do a semester as part of the sign on bonus.

If you are debating on staying in go the ultimate contract:

  1. No Drug Tests
  2. No PT Tests
  3. Deployments at will
  4. Someone else cleans my weapons
  5. $120,000 sign in bonus
Only two sources I trust, Glenn Beck and singing woodland creatures.
