REIT exit opps

I've worked originating, executing and managing real estate deals across the capital stack for the last few years.

I have been trying to get in to RE IB but keep getting dinged for not having M&A/listed REIT experience. If I worked in the internal M&A/Strategy department of a company that manages a number of listed REITs would RE IB be a realistic exit opportunity?

The salary is actually pretty good, but I imagine the bonus would be quite low.
