I have one friend who has had this happen to him. Basically it occurs when there is one candidate that is really strong, and the group passes along his name to other groups who may be looking to add an analyst. This is why you should ALWAYS be thankful for meeting everyone and the opportunity to interview...
Thats what I thought...when I called back to schedule the appointment I spoke with the departments admin assistant and was told that it was for the same position I interviewed for. The same analyst was also cc'd in the renewed interest email.... A bit confusing but I am very greatful.
This is likely a result of one of two things:
a) the first candidate rejected the offer (most likely he had two weeks to decide).
b) the admin has no clue what she is talking about, and this opportunity relates to the same firm, different group.
My guess is this.
was curious what happened with your friend?
btw...did your friend end up getting the job? what happened when they brought him/her in? Want to know what to expect... Dont want to get my hopes up.
Yes, he still works there now, and will start his second year.
awesome. will keep my fingers crossed. thanks for all the input.
Roughly the same thing happened to me:
I made it to final round.
Got a rejection phone call about a week later.
Two days after the rejection call, I got another call asking me if I can come back in to speak with "the team," aka a group whose MD interviewed me in the final round.
It was semi-interview-ish - a couple technicals - but very casual and was more of a meet and greet than an interview I'd say.
After the weekend, I got an offer. I was really happy to say the least. I'm almost 100% sure that someone rejected an offer, but I couldn't care less.
