Reneg process

i got a summer offer in a unrelated industry (finance but not IB or AM) and accepted it but im more interested in equity research so i want to apply to investment roles at asset managers when applications open this year. what on earth do i do if i get an investment summer offer? a lot of this forum is USA geared so i don't know if those scary stories of the new firm finding out and rescinding your offer counts in the UK.

appreciate the help, thanks!

Call up the team that you were supposed to work with (likely your main point of contact if dealing with the team directly, else HR) and tell them you appreciate the offer but you want to persue soemthing else but appreciate the opportunity to work with them.

yeah i would like to be honest. probably email and thank them for the opportunity but let them know i'm more interested in moving to a different industry. also we have GDPR so they can't really try and hunt me down and share my info can they?

In the U.K. from my experience most places don't care about a renege, if anything they'll try to convince you to stay. Haven't heard of anywhere that 'hunts people down' so don't worry about it
