Renowned Wharton RE guru says: virus free-for-all is way to go
So I'm only a few minutes into Linneman's hour-long webinar thing/recording but a friend told me - and it sounds like I can tell where he's going - that Linneman's stance is we should let this fucker run wild and kill a zillion people fast instead of stressing our system by trying to slow it. Who's on board? What would someone like Gordon Gekko say?
Do you have a link?
seconding request for link
this was my take
based linneman: https://www.thedp.com/article/2016/09/peter-linneman-chinese-men-remark
sorry cannot share because it's not cheap, friend's employer paid for it and i promised i wouldn't. but linneman is popular in the biz, ask around in your network - pretty common to be a subscriber.
edit: weird, just saw two people post the link and then it disappeared. no idea if it turned out to actually be free or what.
My comment got deleted with the link. It says it can be passed on but I'm assuming its WSO censoring. Picture (no link) attached for reference.
Looks like it’s on his YouTube page now... I’ll listen in the morning
In a utilitarian state with zero morals, maybe. That’s if you don’t even consider the unintended consequences of that many people getting seriously ill and a huge number dying. So maybe...that’s dumb as hell.
Nvm
This is what UK suggested to do, but they quickly reverted back to country-wide shutdown.
Also Japan is doing something similar, although Japanese people are so insanely disciplined that they require less government intervention to contain the spread.
link to the japan article?
Believe I read, and I don't know if it came out before or after his other plan, that the Borris Johnson plan is/was to limit people age 50 and older into self quarantine. As from what I've read the mortality rate is .2% or .02% for people under 60, why are we throwing the whole country into an economic crisis when if old people would just stay home this would work itself out.
I don’t buy the confirmed cases # in Japan. Something isn’t right, very fishy. My guess is that they are downplaying the whole situation due to upcoming summer Olympics. They haven’t been transparent with Covid-19. Shits going to hit the fan in Japan one way or the other.
There's tangible value destruction from mass loss of life as well, it's not a clear-cut net positive decision.
I think that's a bit harsh but there is a medium ground. quarantine the vunerable for 2 to 4 weeks and let all the low risk people get infected. After that period the majority of people would have an immunity so it would be harder for the vunerable to get it.
I think one thing lots of people and governors ignore is that even if you don't die from this virus, as is the case in younger people, there might still be lasting effect and damage to your lung.
So it's not like I won't die so it's ok, I still don't want to live the rest of my life with a damaged lung.
