REPE - any use for engineering consultants?

Hi all,

As an engineer who works at a top structual engineering firm (think AECOM, WSP, SNC Lavilin) for a few years, is there any use for our type in REPE?

I plan to work here for 10ish years to get to the level of a PM and have some deal flow. I would be very in tuned into the value of land, contractors and structual components for development. I'm starting to network now so I'll be able to form genuine relationships with RE folks.

I have no firm plans for the future, but this is an idea that I've been toying with for some time. Ever come across these types in the business? What helped them to break in the most?

An MBA is an option too (I'd go to a top Canadian school though. Love this country too much and I'd like to stay)
