Requesting In-Person Interviews - URGENT
Hey guys (in the male and female sense). Time-sensitive question for you. For those who have experience, what do you think?
Bank A (we'll call it) in NYC wants to do a phone interview. Bank B in NYC wants me to actually come in for an interview. Banks C and D: I've had phone screens with them, and they want to proceed, but they know I'm thousands of miles away.
It would be nice to be able to do multiple interviews in NYC if I fly all the way out. Any suggestions? Do I request an in-person interview with Banks A, C, D? I don't want to come off pushy. What's the protocol on this? Thanks for your timely help!
just let them know that youll be in town, easy
I think its appropriate to let them know you will be in the area and would like to speak with them.
Thanks guys. And how about the bank that asked me to come in? Any need to mention I'd have to fly out from CA, or just go for it? Bit of coordination going on here.
I am not sure what your question is - are you asking whether to ask them for reimbursement for travel expenses? If so, I wouldn't do it if they don't offer - they know you are in CA, so they will probably offer...
No, not asking for that. I was gonna fly out on my own dime. Clarification: the company that asked me to come in for an in-person doesn't know I'm in California. Suppose no need to mention?
Well had they known you were in Cali, they might have offered to reimburse you for flight (assuming your resume address is in NYC). So perhaps mention to the person coordinating (hopefully secretary), and they might offer to pay. I wouldn't worry about coming across as "needy" or any of that - they have a budget for interview travel, so use it.
Thanks, dr joe. Anyone agree/disagree?
i agree - you can even just casually mention it when speaking with bank b to make arrangements - say something like 'well my flight gets in at 11am, which should give me plenty of time - i'll of course let you know if there any travel delays for any reason'
I lived in LA this past summer and currently live in Seattle. In the past month and a half, I've taken 5 roundtrip flights to nyc. And since I currently work, I've done back to back superdays on most of them. And the ones I didn't back to back superdays, I tried to do face to face interviews at the banks that wanted to do phone interviews cuz I was so far away.
After they invite you for a superday, tell them where you're coming from and ask what the travel arrangements are. They usually book everything for you.
What about for the first call/interview? Did you request a face-to-face for those, too? Thanks.
No, I did all the first rounds on the phone. It was mainly for the MM firms that said 'oh, you're far away so we can just do it over the phone'
but all of the BB's i interviewed at booked the flights and hotel
