Research analyst interview questions
Hi everyone,
I have a second interview for a junior research analyst position at CBRE and I wil be tested on Excel, data interpretation and writing skills.
Any advice or experience about it? Will it be doing pivots tables, graphs,.. based on a huge excel database and write something about my observations ?
Anyone has already did these kind of test for a Real estate research analyst position ?
Any help will be really appreciated !
Thanks
Hey kyokura, sorry about the delay, but are any of these useful:

You're welcome.
I don't know anything about the test, but a big part of a research analysts job is to create the quarterly reports for different asset classes. In that role, you have to use excel to track hundreds-thousands of buildings, so pivot tables are useful. From there, you will graph the data and then write about your findings. Basically what you're expecting.
I'd recommend getting a hold of a few reports from CB, Cush and JLL (you can download from their websites) and familiarizing yourself with the lingo.
Let me know if you have any questions, I work a lot with the research team at my company.
Good work buddy. If you've dealt with real estate models before you'll be fine. If not, go get some practice.
I work as an analyst in cre asset management and acquisitions. From my experience with broker analysts at cbre, cw, jll, and hff:
Pivot tables - doubt it
Graphs - maybe but doubt it
Huge excel dataset - doubt it
Build a small 10yr cash flow analysis - maybe
Edit/manipulate an existing model - likely
Good luck. If you can't figure out the answer then explain the steps you would theoretically do to arrive at it.
Thank you all for your responses. Finally the test was just a big database containing rental transactions with data such as location, surface area, tenant, annual renting,... The goal was to analyse the database and test my narrative skills.
I hope that it has gone well, the job seems very interesting :)
Was this in USA?
No, indeed, it's in Belgium (Europe)

DJ Indexes Research Analyst Interview ??? (Originally Posted: 08/15/2010)
Hey guys, So out of the blue I got a call on Friday asking if I was interested in interviewing for a research analyst position with Dow Jones Indexes this upcoming Tues. It seems as if they're looking to hire 2 analysts; one equity index analyst and one alternative investment analyst. Both are entry level positions. I wasn't given much info, except that this phone interview would take place with some of the more senior members asking me about my resume and past experiences. Has anyone had any experience interviewing with DJ Indexes? Does anyone know what sort of questions, technical/behavioral, I should expect to get? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Was this for the South Brunswick office? Apparently a lotta shit's been going on ever since DJI was bought out by Chicago Mercantile Exchange. How did the phone interview go? I'm friends with a lot of the interns there for this summer and a bunch of the full-timers. PM me if you've got questions the phone interview didn't answer.
