The issue more often than not is that there are so many precedents but your situation is somewhat unique, so you need to pull or draw inspiration from several precedents. But you then need to spend time sifting through and finding the relevant things (all part of the analyst's job).

 

You'll then start building your own templates for asks which happen regularly. Or after a couple of months in, you'll start getting a good sense for which pitchbooks where you can draw some of your old work to apply to the new situation. Your associates and VPs will also help by sending you the 2-3 precedents which they think most helpful to "leverage" (read: re-create and update). 

I think it's this part of the job which makes analyst feel like they plateau in the job relatively quickly.
