Response to thank you email?

Interviewed for an Associate level role on Monday. I sent a thank you note to the interviewers, and one responded with “we’d like to thank you as well. We hope to get back to you within a few weeks.”

I already have an offer from another firm but I’d prefer the position at this firm. Assuming the interview went fine, should “we hope to get back to you within a few weeks” be interpreted as a sign I didn’t get the job?

I'd go ahead and let them know that you've received an offer from another firm and would like to hear back from them soon. Could even mention that they're your preferred pick if this is truly the case. That typically speeds up HR. A 2 week turn around time isn't the greatest sign, but you saying you have an offer will make them 1) think more highly of you, and 2) likely get back to you more quickly.

Did this and got the following response.

“We appreciate you reaching out; however due to scheduling we will not come to a decision within the next 2 weeks. We will still keep you in consideration should anything change with the other firm. Please let me know what you decide.”
