Resume Help for Recent Grad; Actuarial to Banking Industry
I went to college for Finance, however, I interned and was recently promoted to an actuarial associate at an actuary firm. I want to pursue a career in Asset Management starting off as an analyst/associate. I am looking to just get my foot in the door so I am considering any options to enter the industry (any suggestions would be greatly appreciated). Also, the actuary firm I work for dealt with retirement plans, not insurance. I live near NYC and will be taking the CFA level 1 exam in December. Please help rip my resume apart.

Ok I made this transition actually, I went from actuarial to finance to IBD. But in your case, because you've already graduated, I think I could probably steer you the right way. First, fix your resume man. Look up Wharton's resume template, and use that. Your resume is to out of order. Education goes first, then work experience and leadership, and then the extras. That's the first step. Second, you need to target the area of AM you want to go into. Do you like fixed income, equities, etc. Then finally you need to network with anyone and everyone that even has a slight connection with you at any and all AM's. Do all of this, work hard at it (And be serious with yourself, don't half ass this process. Especially the networking part), and you'll make it man. People know actuarial guys are smart as hell, and if you have some exams under your belt switching to AM should be relatively easy.
That is the transition I was looking on pursuing, however, I figured with this post I should focus on baby steps. I also did have education first, but I thought the work experience may have more relevance. I will switch it back. I want to go into the equities area but I was open to the other areas because I figured once I get my foot in the door it would be easier to move around.
I mean your resume needs to just read in a generally linear way. So just make sure everything is in chronological order, and make sure everything is relevant. You didn't even state what systems you're proficient in. That's super important in AM. And you have a lot of white of space on your resume. Fix the margins, reduce your name size, and add more information about your experience/EC's.
