Resume Question: Explaining education when you took time away from college

Hello everyone. I was at a big state school for four years, but did not graduate and left about 5 classes shy of the degree. I went and worked in entry-level jobs in PWM for a few years (which I was able to get because I had some college education), then went to community college, and now I am back in school at a target.

I've been getting a ton of conflicting advice and I wanted to pose this question to the community. How should I list out my education in the education part of my resume so it makes sense during recruiting? This is what I have been told:

  1. Do not list any other schools, just current school like anyone else would on their resume and assume that someone reviewing my resume would infer that I must have transferred or left school previously, etc.
  2. List current school with bullet that I had taken college classes previously
  3. List current school with a bullet explaining that I had transferred
  4. List current school and community college
  5. List current school and former 4-year school with years of attendance, make no mention of community college
  6. List current school and former 4-year with a bullet under 4-year saying I did not graduate and left for personal reasons
  7. List current, community college, and former 4-year

Anyone have any advice? I am not trying to hide anything and am very open about my unusual "story," but I am trying to make my resume appealing and non-confusing.

Thank you all very much, I would not even be in the position to need this question answered without some of the help and encouragement I have gotten from members of the WSO community.
