Revolution Partners, a division of Morgan Keegan
Hi guys,
I have an interview with Revolution Partners, a division of Morgan Keegan on Tuesday. If anyone has interviewed with the firm, could you please share your experience? this is first round interview.
Thanks
Wtf?
Thanks a lot.
I see their list of MDs/SVPs are essentially ex BB now working in what is essentially sub mid-market.
Solid firm, hiring aggressively. Fair amount of ex Jeffries Broadview guys. They really care about the why technology/why small shop/why Boston questions... plan accordingly.
Phoned with them last week. Really easy interview. CranApple basically hit it on the head. They have superday coming up soon so they are moving quickly on their 1st rounds.
whateverittakes, pretty funny
the dude that said "wtf" not clued in on humor
I worked with these guys on the buy side (as a strategic buyer) and found them really sharp and likeable. No idea what it's like to be inside the firm so I'm enjoying reading this thread. My sense is that they are good people.
any updates or changes or thoughts on Morgan Keegan since the acquisition by Raymond James?

Does anyone know/have experience about/at this firm? *[Note: I don't care how they rank, prestige, blah blah].
Thanks!
I actually spoke with a couple guys at RP. I didn't get a good impression at all. But this was for the LA office.
They're a division of Morgan Keegan (relatively well known name). I'm interning for them now and really enjoy it. Definitely thumbs up.
this is one of the lowest boutiques, for state school kids and those with 2.8 gpa's
Why don't you care about prestige?
I recognize a guy who works there who always had an arrogant dickhead aura about him. Maybe that came from his perpetually pissed off face but I laugh cause now he works there...
Because I just wanted some info, and once you start working a little you realize how much of a giant load of bull shit all the ranking stuff is.
So you agree the firm sucks then
we agree you suck
I know an analyst at Revolution Partners and he really enjoys it. A few inside tips:
Base pay is much lower than wall street, but supposedly the bonuses compensate and bring pay back up to par. Also, the team continued to get good deal flow and close deals in early 2009 while the rest of the banking world was taking a tremendous hit. As a result, they've avoided bad layoffs and the analysts have gained solid experience.
While I wouldn't take Revolution Partners over any of the well known MMs or bulge bracket firms, they are definitely a solid choice among the boutiques of the world.

You're about 2 months too late jerome, sternmasta's been banned for awhile, but nice to hear about a firm I knew nothing about...
Had final rounds last year and met a number of people in the SF office. I guess I can speak to the culture. Overall it's an incredibly laid back environment, senior people are pretty chill, and analysts definitely don't work BB hours. Downside is that despite considering themselves a MM bank, they operate in a really tiny space deal size-wise (Jefferies, for example, wouldn't even consider RP a competitor). Also, this hasn't been mentioned thus far but I'm assuming you know they are tech only?
Great info thanks. Yes I am aware that they are tech only.
Jerome, if you're going to stalk my posts to give me a -1, you should at least not post to avoid digging up these old threads.

From what I have heard, you get an interesting experience working as an analyst at RP. It shares many similarities with any other IB analyst gig, but one thing the firm does (and does well) is take immature -- for lack of a better term -- companies with weak internal controls and works with the management team to develop proper internal functionality to get the client ready to go to market. A lot of their clients are early stage and have absolutely no internal financial reporting controls and would get NO where if they went to market as is. This allows analysts to see how many new, successful companies operate from the inside and how to avoid making the same mistakes if you are ever in your clients' shoes.
It seems like a great place if you have an entrepeneurial spirit and hope to some day start a legit business of your own.
EDIT: This is secondhand knowledge, so if anyone with actual experience disagrees with this, please let me know so I'm not passing around garbage info.
That actually sounds like exactly what I would like to get out of a IB experience. Sounds like excellent preparation for Venture Capital.

Anybody have info on them? It seems like they are in same tier as TWP, etc...
Are they up and coming or purely niche?

Im looking for information on revolution partners. I heard they were very good at technology banking. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks

yes they are well-regarded in the tech space
They are having a great year. Recently closed a lot of deals (June and July time frame). Pretty solid tech shop and if you´re applying to Boston, their office is located in a pretty good spot as well!
They pay below market base but make up for it with bonus numbers.

Are their analysts sourcing? Or doing the same stuff as analysts other places?
It's an investment bank, their analysts work on transactions.
