Rising sophomore, 2.9 GPA - am I screwed?
Hey guys,
I'm attending a target ivy and just completed my Freshman year; long story short I ended the year with a 2.91, and feeling a bit lost.
Hell, I was even late with scoping out internships (I started gaining an interest in finance well into my second semester, started seriously looking in March/April) and landed a gig as a Sales rep at a marketing firm. It isn't really prestigious at all, but I will admit that it has taught me a bunch and is teaching me pretty invaluable lessons.
I want to eventually intern at a BB/EB, starting next summer (2020); I'm just really scared that no hiring manager or recruiter will give me the time of day with that GPA. In the fall, recruiters flood on campus as soon as 2 weeks into the semester and I'm really worried about this. I know I should begin to apply for diversity programs, internships for next summer and begin networking with alumni. I'm just wondering if it's all in vain until I get my GPA up?
A bit about me: On campus I work two part time jobs (both within administration of my school), involved with my university's student council, am a URM female.
In terms of why my GPA was so low, I went through a family death (I was able to get a few courses incomplete but some were more complicated than others) which really affected my academics. I am sure I will be able to get it up this year, but I'm not even sure how to articulate this to potential employers.
Thoughts?
