Rising sophomore trying to break into IB
Hi everyone, relatively a new user here! To briefly introduce myself, I'm a non-diversity college student from a semi-target hoping to break into IB. 2 weeks ago, I received an offer for a Corporate Banking sophomore summer analyst position at a BB with CB and IB in the same division. I am happy with the offer, but my goal is to break into IB and had three quick questions about my situation.
1) The deadline to respond to the offer is approaching real soon: should I take the CB offer even if it's not directly IB-related? I understand this may come off in the wrong way but I am curious about the value of a CB experience in prep for IB.
2) What are the best ways to break into IB as a junior with CB experience? (I assume networking with the IB team in the same firm but anything else?)
3) Does a "lateral" process exist at the intern level or would I have to apply through the regular SA program?
I would also appreciate any and all advice/recommendations about the process. I know and have read other posts on the forum related to this move, but I wanted to ask specifically at the intern level.
Thank u so much for helping me out.
1) Take it. Your sophomore summer internship doesn't really matter as long as it is finance related. BB name should help you get looks even if it isn't IB at the BB.
2) Can't comment directly on this but I would assume networking and using your CB experienceto tie into your story of why you want to switch to IB
3) Probably SA
Did you network for the CB SA role?
