had one, got cancelled. The university wouldn’t allow another one because of “CPT guidelines” for international students. Have an in-school professional development program though

Start preparing for interviews. Sophomore summer recruitment for NYC starts late summer for some firms, so get started on that too

I think lateraling is the best way. I've looked through this forum and am in the same spot as you except I'm lucky my pwm internship isn't canceled. After this internship, I'm going to switch to the firms AM group and I'm going to continue to network with local banks and reach out to alumni there. I go to Michigan State so even though it isn't a target, it has a huge alumni base.

Sophomore recruitment is like the Wild West, anything can happen. Know the basic technical/behavioral, but the most important factor is networking. Keep pushing, don’t hesitate to email the CEOs of smaller firms, look where the juniors/seniors of your school went, ask if they can help you, and network, network, network. My biggest advice would be to start by the end of June, I was really late into sophomore year recruitment and had to grind like crazy to get something.

If you’re diverse, look at all the diversity events for the big firms, you could end up going there sophomore year itself and wouldn’t have to go through recruitment again.

Whether you’re diverse or not, the prep is the same. the only difference that I saw is that diversity recruiters really care about your background and story, especially how you overcame challenges

Few players recall big pots they have won, strange as it seems, but every player can remember with remarkable accuracy the outstanding tough beats of his career.
