'Rona Flight Deals
Is anyone taking advantage of flight deals that are around? Obviously right now it's hard to plan ahead since no one has any idea how long this will go for, but it's really tempting seeing some flights halfway around the world for less than $600 roundtrip. Once things clear up a bit more, I'm hoping airlines will still have plenty of deals going on.
Thinking of hopping on it for a wedding in the fall
Did that get pushed to fall? I was supposed to go to one in May that got postponed to August, wondering if that's still going to work
Not that one specifically but yes I have another one that did get pushed to the fall. If Rona doesn't get me, back to back weddings all fall will.
I booked three flights starting in a few months. Hopefully things settle down by then.
Where to?
For going back home & to my current "workplace"
Any thoughts on where to travel to? I'm not sure if Portugal, Turkey (Questionable post-covid), Germany, Norway, Italy? These places have frequent deals though. Maybe I should take advantage and fly somewhere like Japan, Singapore, or New Zealand.
I found a ~$650 round trip flight to Singapore from the east coast a couple days ago.
Getting these cheap flight deals can be a bit risky. If you buy tickets now for, say, summer and this thing drags on then you most certainly won't get your money back but get a voucher. Since airlines need cash they'll be adamant about giving you any money back (and may straight up cancel that route or go belly up in the time being). It does seem like a waste to not take this opportunity but it is quite risky. Granted, if you don't mind potentially wasting $600 go for it.
Yeah exactly. It’s for such few dollars relatively, and those places will still exist in the future, that we might as well just wait. It’s especially confusing with some countries announcing states of emergency while talking about opening up their economies at the same time.
Yeah - I already have a bunch of vouchers already for airline travel that got canceled.. not sure I need anymore IOU's from airlines who are going to get pummeled from now until at least the end of the year. Pummeled may be too kind for the beating they are taking.
If you have routine flights - family, vacations you always take each year, etc. that are out into the fall or winter - I think you can take a flyer or two (no pun intended) on those. Internationally... it's just not worth it IMO right now. Even when this all clears, I suspect places will be running all kinds of deals still and you won't have to deal with a potential travel ban being extended.
I think patience is a virtue in this mess.
