Roommate or no Roommate, Covid edition
Lots of threads covering whether to have a roommate while working in IBD, but what about with Covid? Could imagine it being tough WFH in a tiny apt with another person doing the same thing. Assuming you could easily afford a Studio apt for yourself, would you live with a roommate in a 2 BR?
Thinking in the Chicago area where this is possible, but feel free to pitch in other city insights too.
Sharing a studio? No way.
Sharing a two-bedroom apartment is ok.
Sorry, meant that you can afford a Studio for yourself. Would live in a 2 BR with roommate.
Personally, I would if I moderately knew the person. If they were a stranger I would think more about it. I would be kind of nice to have another friend/friend group to occasionally hang out with. That is I like having people to talk to.
Why would anyone share a studio lmfao?
This is the problem I’m grappling with. Living with a second person is cheaper, but the chances of getting covid are twice. But if I live alone - I won’t really go out at all and just be stuck in my room working which isn’t healthy. So idk what to do. Increase my COVID chances or be alone?
Don’t be afraid of COVID
I'm not saying that COVID is not a real problem for some individuals with preexisting conditions, but you cannot expect to live like this for the remainder of your life. At some point you will have to go back to a office and interact with the outside world in person.
I would not weigh your roommate decision on the chance of getting COVID.
Are you vaccinated? Of course getting Covid is still a concern, but if roommate is also vaccinated, is it really a huge concern for you moving forward?
Having roommates as a grown adult is cringe.
even for college grads working in NYC?
if my budget is 2.2k what do you recommend?
In London, everyone does... the only person I know having a studio flat is a 30 year old post-MBA VP and she pays £2k per month (which in London is a lot - 2x what a junior banker would pay)
I would say its not bad until age 28+. I mean you can have a great lifestyle for the less. save more and if you can live with good friends or a family member what is the downside. I see very little.
I choose live alone every time. If you can’t afford a decent place solo then a 2br is fine, but I feel like 2ba is a must.
Oh yeah, like who on hell would actually share a room... we’re not in college anymore
I feel the same way, I don't think it's natural to share a room at all...plus living alone can potentially yield higher-caliber chicks. And if you have a gf/bf it's a necessity.
I prefer to live alone. Easier to date, you sleep better, and no one to leave their dishes in the fucking sink.
guys any suggestions on a studio vs. a 1BR if monthly rent is like $200-300 apart ?
