Rothschild Chicago

Anybody have any information on this office? I know it's relatively new. From what I could find, it is where the head of paper and packaging sits. It also has a C&R team, but I don't think they cover a lot of verticals out of Chicago.

How is the culture here? What other groups do they have? Comp?

Bump

Actually spoke with a few folks in the office. Honestly seemed like great people. Smaller office (20-25 bankers, unless that’s changed). Industrials, c&r, and paper & packaging, focus

Curious to hear more about the analyst hemorrhaging cited above

I don’t want to expose myself given the small nature of office but have a good connection there. I think they lost like ~3-4 out of 8 analysts. It’s a really tough place to work, and is probably a tier below the rest of the top industrials groups in Chicago. I’m Chicago banker doing industrials, so I’ve heard from friends that they’re hiring. That being said, given everything going on, you need to ask yourself, why would a group be hiring now. There are two logical answers: 1) growing and need to support more deal flow or 2) people are leaving. This is definitely case of 2), so if you are interested, you need to really ask yourself if you want to sweat your ass off at a group that people have decided to jump ship from, even in todays market. Personally, based on what I’ve heard, I wouldn’t touch it. That being said, if you’re desperate, you’re desperate lol.

Have had a few conversations with some folks in Chicago office - all seem nice and down to earth. I would say (based off my perception) it appears that they are growing and need junior support. From my understanding they are actively executing on sizable mandates, they have a strong pipeline, and are anticipating things to pick up pretty quickly in the second half of the year. That being said, they are certainly a smaller office that has leaner deal teams so I can imagine juniors getting absolutely crushed which may have pushed a few out. It does seem as though they are trying to mitigate deal teams being spread too thin and that they very focused on finding the right fit for the people they choose to bring on

Very fratty and a lot of ppl from Big 10 nearby. So if you aren’t from Midwest it will be a big disconnection to the rest of juniors and some seniors.

Bump - thought I would hear something about their process by this week, but nothing. Anyone hear about next rounds?

The place is a sweatshop. I’ve heard horror stories from people who have worked there and left where associates would hold on to comments to drop on analyst desk at 11pm as a hazing activity.

If it’s your only option, sure. Otherwise keep looking as you’re going to burn out.
