Rothschild EMEA internship interview

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, please go easy on me.

I just had my first round interview with Rothschild (out of 2) for the internship program. It was a test and an interview with an infrastructure associate and an HR representative.

I wanted to talk about the interview round. While most of the people that went through this process had a fit based one, mine was very technical. Very heavy in corporate finance and into the details of infrastructure (I guess it was because I worked for a year in corporate finance infrastructure).

My question is: Is it bad if the whole interview was technical while everyone else (that interviewed with the same guy) had a fit based one?

Additional information: My interview went about 15 min over time (50% more than the initially allocated time). Unfortunately, I don't think I built a connection with the interviewer because it's hard to connect over technicals.

Thank you for your help.

It's not necessarily a bad thing. Personally, I think it's simply because you've got a year of experience in the exact industry group that the Associate works in.

Most other intern candidates won't have as much work experience and therefore won't be expected to know as much on the technical side. As long as you answered the basics correctly and came across well in the interview, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

On the timing issue - in my experience it's generally a good sign when an interview lasts longer than scheduled, since if the interviewer doesn't like you they're not going to waste everyone's time by asking you tons of extra questions.
