Round 3 Applications - How many to make?

I'm putting together b-school apps for round 3.

Should I apply to all remaining M7 schools + INSEAD / LBS (MiF) in round 3? Wouldn't that be the same as applying to H/W/S in round 2 probability wise?

How awesome are you?

From everything I've heard/read Round 3 is extraordinarily difficult because classes are already nearly filled. There is only room for the most outstanding and/or most unusual applicants. As short said, they aren't using round 3 to admit one last white dude from MS IBD. Maybe if were a did TFA before becoming a Tibetan monk and came back to the US to start a wildly successful enterprise, travelled to all 7 continents, and founded a public/private partnership to distribute anti-malaria drugs in Africa -they'll take a look at you.

I think you also lose some points with adcomms as applying Round 3 doesn't exactly demonstrate your pro-active interest in a school.

I'm pretty awesome...

Seriously though, I'm a bit more experienced than most b-school applicants in terms of years worked and actual experience and while I'm in finance/REPE, I don't fit the usual analyst/associate/vp mould.

Good point to address interest in the specific schools in my essays. I can speak to the timing issue as I've been working on my own fund/business plan, thus timing of business school entrance was up on the air (to enrol this year or next).

I would go for it. There's not much downide (other than that you probably won't qualify for any merit aid) and they do accept some people round 3, otherwise it wouldn't exist. So if money is not an issue and you think you are a very strong candidate, I say go ahead.
