RSM LLC Tech. and Management Consulting Practice (Formerly known as Mcgladrey)
I was recently offered a position with RSM (Boston) for their Technology and Management consulting Practice. I was familiar with the company as an accounting firm, but the MC practice is new, and I would like some input about: type of projects, prestige, how this firms looks for Business School, travel expectations, etc...
Hey YitzelChang, what a lonely thread. I'm here since nobody responded ...so maybe one of these discussions will help:

If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
This position will be essentially risk/implementation based. Compare it to something like 50% risk advisory services at EY (penetration testing, IT process audits etc) as well as 50% Oracle consulting where you are implementing SAP systems. Those %s vary by office but I can't speak to more specifics on that.
It would not be considered alongside management consulting positions - they compete with something like Grant Thornton or BDO consulting. The "management consulting" tagline is more to attract talent than anything. They may do some work with smaller companies that could be considered this but it is very rarely going to be anything particularly strategic. Prestige would be on the low end, you could expect mid-tier business school exits. Probably something like a Bentley or Babson; I don't believe they offer much compensation for it so I would assume a number of people go part time.
Travel expectations can vary somewhat. Going to have a lot more local clients than many of the top firms because they bill out at much lower rates. May get some travel for implementation work but at an associate level it should be fairly limited.
Thanks for the feedback. I accepted the position. I had aimed for a T2 associate/analyst positions but wasn’t able to crack the barriers. I have relevant experience (6 month for an Investment management firm, & 1 yr as an intern for a narrow focused consulting firm), but come from a non-target state school (I haven’t found one alumni working in the consulting space for MBB, Deloitte, Strategy&, etc...) Essentially, my options were limited and I felt like the experience would be good even if the work is less strategic.
