RX IB analyst looking to transition to S&T at a Distressed Desk - Thoughts?

My initial thought process with going into IB has been to become a career banker - always thought I am meant to be in a salesman and after spending a year in IB, I still really like the work MDs do and could definitely see myself enjoying the work of a MD. However, it just takes a long time before I get there, and I am not sure if it's exactly worth it. I have been thinking of transitioning to a Sales role at a Distressed Desk for this reason.

Some questions:

  1. At a Distressed Desk, how technical does the work get for the Sales people? Ideally, I still want to be digging into complex situations everyday at work and it's not just handing the technical elements to the Traders to talk about.

  2. How favorably do S&T teams look upon IB analysts looking to join S&T? Will it be an interview process where I really need to prove myself? With 2 years of IB experience, will I still be starting as an analyst or associate?

Thanks!
