Ryan Long Comedy - Why Aren't Other Comedians Doing This?
Recently, I found Ryan Long's Youtube channel, which regularly posts videos making fun of the stupidity of both sides of the political spectrum and makes fun of our society. Unlike a typical 2020 "comedian", he seeks to make fun of a wide range of people and does not try to take a side. Most comedians on T.V. spend their time constantly bashing Trump i.e. Trevor Noah. Much of the criticism is warranted, but I find it hard to believe that the American audience wants to hear "Trump is bad" every single night. Given the competitiveness of television, why don't mainstream comedians follow his style and make light of both sides of the spectrum and a wide range of people/issues?
For those that aren't familiar with his content, I attached one of his videos below.
You should check out Tim Dillon.
Thanks, I will. Wasn't he the guy on the Joe Rogan podcast?
He's been on several times, I think he's one of the guests with the most appearances. Dude is an absolute riot, a big fat, gay, uncouth, greasy riot who is a joy to listen to. Here's a fun episode.
Discovered him a few months ago, easily my favorite. He’s very sharp and witty
I think your timing with creating this topic is a few years too late. At the moment, I do not think there much to laugh about regarding this POTUS.
Is it your mission to suck the fun out of anything you comment on? Because you're unconscionably good at it.
Dude, you do not participate in my lighter topics and comments. I frequently comment about working out, sports and sometimes females, etc.
OUR Capitol was attacked by OUR own people and endorsed by OUR POTUS. The US Capitol has not been breached since 1812. The Feds are on high alert for future violence across the nation. There is nothing funny about it.... I have already had polite conservations on here about BLM violence. I sort of get the outrage about BLM but the reality is that no one on here supports violence ( I hope no one supports it.)
Do you still not get why no one likes you?
As they say on the Shark Tank:
"I am out"
See ya
I think it was Bill Burr who said the real trick is to piss off both sides. Seems like a funny guy, will check him out more of his stuff.
Dave Chappelle is pretty good at this too.
Dave is awesome.
Andrew Schulz is good too
His new Netflix show is amazing.
Agree his new show is great
To get a good laugh, you can never go wrong with Jiomah Ma.
I was also contemplating about it a couple of years ago. In my opinion there are two main reasons:
1) TV channels are owned by people who have a political agenda. Thus, they will be sure to only approve comedy that supports their narrative. That's why all the late night show hosts appear to be leftist (cause TV channels are owned by people supporting democrats).
2) On internet, most people are either kids or failed adults, which is why they have so much free time. Both kids and failed adults are usually leftists. On opposite, adults who support republicans, are either busy working or busy enjoying their life. So, it's easier to get views and likes if you're pushing a leftist narrative in your comedy on the internet, because the audience is leftist.
That's why on both TV and Internet it's mainly leftist comedians.
Agree. Personally, I think the last 4 years have been a dismal period for comedy.
The point of political comedy is to take something serious and flip it on it's head to show ridiculous it really is.....problem with Trump was that he is so ridiculous in every way that it's actually hard to make fun of the guy. I found myself laughing harder at Trump's actual tweets than the scores of lame comedians trying to make fun of his tweets. Compare this to back in the day when George W was around, comedy was absolutely amazing! I laughed my ass off at the Bush jokes.
Also, I think that there is SO MUCH comedic gold out there right now such as the gender spectrum, defund the police, and ultra-biased media. If I was comedian, I would take full advantage of this. Again, we have a case of a political party taking something very seriously which makes it even funnier to ridicule. You see a lot of this in the conservative meme universe these days. Seriously, conservative memes in the past year have been funnier than anything I've seen in a decade. If I was a mainstream comedian, I would tap into some of these themes and bring them to a more widespread audience.
Other comedians aren't doing this because no one is getting laid making fun of the left.
Ryan has built himself something of a fanbase doing this, but he would be a social pariah in any major US city among educated people. How many 25 year old ambitious entertainers want to make all the cool people hate them? not many
its also not good for your career. you think this guy is gonna get a show on TV like trevor noah? absolutely not.
