Safe in Current Economy?

I have an opportunity to move to move from Big 4 consulting to a small/mid-sized($35B AUM) , but respected Institutional Investment firm on West Coast (what I have also wanted to do). They say they're in decent shape - don't anticipate major issues, blah blah. Just nervous about current environment. Can you ask for a "corporate commitment" clause? Not a golden parachute obviously, but 3-6 months severance? Anything else to look out for? Thanks!

How does their performance record look? Is it a partnership or part of a publicly-traded company?

If they're still interested in hiring even with the market sell off and volatility YTD you can probably feel a bit better about it. If they were nervous they would almost certainly freeze hiring as a first step. Given the size you mentioned, my guess is it's a private company and these tend to take a longer term view about hiring and certainly letting people go.
