Safe in Current Economy?
I have an opportunity to move to move from Big 4 consulting to a small/mid-sized($35B AUM) , but respected Institutional Investment firm on West Coast (what I have also wanted to do). They say they're in decent shape - don't anticipate major issues, blah blah. Just nervous about current environment. Can you ask for a "corporate commitment" clause? Not a golden parachute obviously, but 3-6 months severance? Anything else to look out for? Thanks!
You can try, but in this environment, they can easily tell you to scram and just give the next guy a call (who would be more than happy without it)
Thanks. You're probably right. Do you think the Institutional Investment biz less likely to get hammered than others now?
How does their performance record look? Is it a partnership or part of a publicly-traded company?
If they're still interested in hiring even with the market sell off and volatility YTD you can probably feel a bit better about it. If they were nervous they would almost certainly freeze hiring as a first step. Given the size you mentioned, my guess is it's a private company and these tend to take a longer term view about hiring and certainly letting people go.
