Saint Louis University - THOUGHTS?
Hello Everyone,
I am aware that this will probably get flamed as it is not considered a top school.
I was wondering if anyone has heard of, had experience, or any thoughts about the school SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY.
It is a private, Jesuit school.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
id look at WashU instead
otherwise your going to have an upward battle w/ SLU if you want to get into BB, like IBD, PE,etc.
Quick note about me: I'm a current sophomore at SLU (Saint Louis University) studying finance and economics.
This is a rather late comment, but for those that are looking into SLU should be wary that job selection may be very difficult and networking may force your hand into traveling to various locations. The business school is actually quite nice about helping its students with resumes and internship searches. There are also several career fairs that happen during both the spring and fall semesters.
We get mostly AM and smaller HF/ER shops that come into the career fairs. A TON of accounting firms come, including every big four firm. This year, GS Risk Department came from Salt Lake City, which apparently is a new thing. JPM also showed up at the career fair, but I think it was the AM department. If you're trying to break into IB, it'll most likely be very difficult. In all honesty, Olin at WashU will probably fare for you better if you're trying to break into IB.
I'd say that there are some opps to get into HF and CO but are looking for a very specific group of people. One particularly notable HF is Kennedy Capital Management, a HF which deals in small to mid cap companies.
Don't hesitate to reach out to me, kinda hard finding students that have any interest in higher finance. If you go to SLU and are reading this, def reach out to me. Most of my free time is spent reading WSJ, WSO, NYT, M&I, and various books such as Liar's Poker.
Recent grad here from Finance. TBH, I wouldn't choose this over WashU IF you like the STL/MO region. The Fin. Dept at SLU used to be strong, but two recent professors aren't teaching much (one just retired, the other is very close to) with not a long of strong alternatives outside of the APM prof. The degree was awesome for me, but I think I graduated when the program was near its fullest potential. Opened a lot of doors and received some awesome education, with the classmates being highly driven friends.
Post grad: Pretty much you'll be working at Boeing, Wells Fargo, or EJ or an accounting firm. Graduates with the best opps would have taken APM, so you could reach out the the alum and see where they landed. Outside of those select few people (dozen per year), pretty much you're limited to the bigger sized firms in STL and that's about it.
Just curious, what route did you take/what department are you working now? I recently went to a career fair and honestly the biggest companies there were the ones your mentioned (Boeing, WF, EJ, accounting, etc).
EDIT: Just clicked on your profile and saw that you were an advisor, may I ask what company?
