Salary question

I have been in the application process for a major company and gone through some of their rounds. I am at the point now where they do ask me to disclose my salary. However, my salary right now is pretty low and I dont want: 1.) Them to think I am not good because I dont earn much, 2.) Give them the idea they can pay me less than other people just because I dont earn much now. I dont want to be annoying by not disclosing this information, but actually I think it is none of their business, so what should I do? I REALLY WANT THE JOB. Another consideration/idea I have is that I wonder if they will ever really ask for documentation, as in salary overviews or whatever!

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION ON THIS ISSUE. IT IS FOR A U.S. company but for its asian operations, so recruitment will be done by Asians as well.

THANK YOU.

I will never tell someone to blatantly lie because 1) I think it is wrong/bad business and 2) it can cause a lot more harm than good. However there are some options being that there are more shades of grey involved in business overseas. This becomes a really slippery conversation very fast, if you have specific questions feel free to PM me

Normally you give them a number higher than what you earn now. But ifs the people asking are FOBS, then might be different due to cultural difference. I have never seen an employer ask for a copy of paycheck to see how much your really earning, but I don't know how other cultures do this.

But ya, its pretty normal to inflate your salary, and work around that. Just keep it reasonable.

Good question. I don't think they will ask for documentation for the salary (never heard of it). There was a good post on this in the past, I believe RockyMountain (name?) posted something about salary negotiation. The general advice was to tell a fib, but don't go crazy with it. I would search for it.

Fear is the greatest motivator. Motivation is what it takes to find profit.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..
