SAT Score for consulting

Do SAT scores make a big difference when applying to a top consulting(BCG, McKinsey)? I'm at an ivy and was a recruited athlete so SAT scores were irrelevant. I have above 3.7 with two quant majors but I have around a 2000 SAT score. Would I still get an interview? I don't get why a test I took 4 years ago should matter.

Since SAT scores are a universal (nearly everyone who went to college in the US took them) objective standard, firms like to use them in order to have another data point to compare candidates. It is silly and I agree with you why should a test taken years ago still be relevant... unfortunately, those are the rules of the game, and you have to abide by the rules if you want to play...

First of all, what did you get on the Math section? In my honest opinion, the only score that firms really care about is the Math score, so as long that is over 700, you should feel okay putting it on your resume.

In fact, since you say you got a 2000, if your breakdown is something similar to 750 math, 650 verbal and 600 writing, you could even just leave the writing section off and put "750 math, 650 verbal," etc.

Most people reviewing your resume took the "old version" of the SAT (when it was out of 1600), so they will think 1400/1600 and think, "Okay, this kid is smart enough"

Another alternative (perhaps for future recruiting) is to take the GMAT, get a good score and put that on your resume in lieu of SAT scores.
