Screwed over twice. Help Needed - Desparate

Hi everyone. I apologize for this being so long, but would greatly appreciate any response.

I'm a rising senior double majoring in economics and statistics at a semi-target school on the east coast that has been screwed over two consecutive summers for internships. The summer of sophomore year going into junior year, I had verbal commitment with a reference I had met for a gig at a small boutique investment management firm. I had met the guy during my winter break of sophomore year and had kept in contact with him throughout the spring semester. Once the summer rolled around, he stopped answering my emails and phone calls. It wasn't until the mid of July that he said he didn't need me and told me to stop contacting him. At that point, there weren't any other places that were looking for interns, so I just continued with my undergraduate research.

Having gone through that experience I was determined to not repeat such a disastrous summer again. As soon as the fall semester of my junior year started I hit up the alumni network, career services as well as other places hard to get a head start. I applied to almost 35-40 places. Unfortunately, I only heard back from 3. One was a boutique IB firm that had called me in for an interview; I did well and went to the super day where I was rejected. The second firm was also a boutique IB place and got through only the first round.

The third firm is what is really pissing me off. It is major BB based in the UK. I applied to this firm back in December 2010 (due date was Feb 2011) but also had sent my resume to someone I knew who worked there. I was called in for an interview in March (which I had prepared for thoroughly) and nailed it. I explained to the interviewer my situation from last summer and told her I am very committed to this firm.

Since then, I have experienced one hell of a emotional roller coaster. After having the first hr rep leave the firm, the second rep ignore all emails and calls, I am currently in talks with the third hr rep for the last 2 months. Initially, I was told there were no positions opened, then about 3 weeks ago, one position opened up that I took immediately. I filled out all the paperwork and signed all the necessary forms and was on my to start when all of a sudden I was hit with another surprise: my application must be verified by some government officials in Singapore (you can guess which bank I am referring to at this point) before I begin. I was told it wouldn't take more than 2 days. It has been a week.

So, WSO this is where I am at. This has been the most stressful, anxiety-inducing summer in my entire life. I am desperate for some work. It is mid-July still not word on an internship. Most internship gigs end in mid August which gives me just a month IF I start this Monday. (Just as a side note, during the month of June, I took the valuation course at IBI to keep myself busy). My questions to you are:

What should I do now?
Is there a chance for me to ever get a full time offer (want to get in strategic consulting and than eventually PE) given my lack of internship experience?

Again, I apologize for this being so long but would appreciate a response. Thanks.
