SEC vs Liberal Arts
I am a freshman at a top LAC(williams/amherst) with a 3.6 gpa.. I know I'm in a solid position for finance recruiting but I dislike the social scene at my current school and would like to transfer to Vanderbilt. What are peoples thoughts on this move? I know vandy will be a much better college experience but will I regret it when recruiting season comes around? Also vanderbilt is the only school I am considering, I'm not interested in transferring to a different target
I think Vandy is solid. You'll get plenty of OCR and a great social scene. I think it is a good choice.
I agree with TNA above, but ask yourself why only Vandy? Are you from Nashville and you want to be closer to home, do friends go there, does a high school girlfriend go there and you want to be at school with her? Do you want to study something (finance for example) and they don't offer it at your school? I'd say being closer to home's an ok reason, being with friends is so-so, and if it's for a girl (or boy) it's a bad reason. Pursuing a major is a great reason.
But I agree, the social scene at a 2000 student college in the middle of nowhere is pretty lame. I almost went to one of those but didn't, and when I went to visit friends who went to those types of schools while I was in college it was pretty depressing, and that was 20 years ago when rules were more lax with regard to drinking. Sitting around in a dorm room drinking as the ultimate and almost only social scene was pretty lame.
I am fixated on vandy mostly because it seems like a very transfer friendly school and will allow me to have a normal experience even as a transfer. Vandy has about 250 transfers a year and has a special rush process for transfers who want to join a fraternity.. Also I would be an HOD major at vandy which is a business type major which is supposedly very grade inflated. So I would get the best of both worlds and be able to have the vandy experience while having a high gpa..

Can anyone comment on their experience at vanderbilt (Socially or Recruiting wise)???
