Sector coverage to Special Sits

Hi all,

Was wondering whether anyone could give me some advice on how I could break into special sits investing in the UK. 

Background - Associate 1 at an EB - sector coverage, have done a couple of buy-sides where I also did a bit of the debt modeling / RES RAS decks. Have also done sell-sides. 

Current situation: Some of the funds I'm looking at are only interested in BB candidates (guess it is because they have more debt exposure). What can I do to make myself more competitive? Do I have to leave my current firm / role and move over to restructuring? Fear is that by the time I do that, I'll be "too old"
