"Sector Specialist vs. Investment Analyst"

Equity research associate (sell-side) here, looking to move to the buy-side. A recruiter contacted me with regards to a "sector specialist" position at a well known & respected fund. He told me it's not a fundamental research analyst role as I would be reporting to a few different PMs, but the job description basically says I would be evaluating investment ideas, etc. This is a completely new division at the asset manager, started in 2015 as a way for the company to bolster its in-house research.

The description says: Interfacing with investment teams to understand the key investment debates or performance drivers, and partnering with the different teams on the research platform to define the approach for gathering relevant drivers. The role provides a unique opportunity to apply deep fundamental research to stock research, while working on a diverse range of high-impact projects across many industries. As part of a team, he will interact frequently with senior members of the organization.

Also this in another paragraph: ...focused on providing research solutions to the Long/Short teams at. The role consists of developing relevant products and insights from a variety of data sets created and sourced by the Firm to forecast fundamental drivers of stocks and sectors.

I'm wondering if this is a) a good opportunity or not and b) if this is more-or-less an analyst role. If it's not, I am now pigeon holed in this type of position or will this be a foray into portfolio management? Very confused as to whether or not I should pursue this. I'm obviously also somewhat wondering what pay is like relative to typical analysts.
