Seeking advice as an Eng Student

Dear Monkeys,

This is my first post so bear with me please ( Have been lurking around for the past two weeks ). I'm looking to break into finance (particularly IB). With that being said, I am not a business student. I'll be entering my third year this fall studying Industrial Engineering in Toronto. I have pretty good CGPA (3.7/4) , minimal extra curricular (looking to join the finance/investment club this fall to add it to my resume) and no previous finance related jobs. I have learned basic financial concepts and am on my way to learn some more advanced ones, including basic financial modelling. Typically, students try to find a 12-16 month internship after third year to take a year off and work. People only do 4 if they get a job at BCG or McKinsey (and that is typically IB goes, I've only heard about people getting a job at RBC Capital Markets.

Getting to the point now I am looking for some advice as to how to further improve my self to look more attractive to recruiters. Should I be aiming for big companies such as Goldman, Bank of America or JP for my first internship or something such as RBC ? I understand that B.O.A has a 12 month internship and am wondering if anyone has any insight on that? Furthermore, is applying online even worth it?

Thanks in advance for reading (and responding)
