Seeking advice on how I should proceed over 2017
Hello everyone.
I'm new here and was just seeking advice on how I should proceed over 2017 in order to secure a grad position in S&T, M&A, or more realistically corporate finance or Institutional Banking.
A bit about me: I'm based in Sydney, Australia. I'm 23 and have one year of my Commerce degree left (majors in Economics and Finance). I previously did 3.5 years in Engineering before I changed to Commerce so that's why I'm so old. In terms of marks, my university uses WAM; mine is currently 76.25. I want to secure a grad position in one of the above mentioned roles but I'm in a strange position and I'm not sure how to proceed.
I'm currently 3 weeks into a 12 month full-time internship in the operations branch of one of the major European car manufacturers and I'm not sure if it's worth it for me to defer university this year to do it. I doubt it will be seen very positively by the IBs when recruiting since it's just operations.
But if I go back to university to complete my final year and apply for grad roles, I won't have any corporate experience other than the 4 weeks of this internship that i'll have completed by the time uni starts.
Do you think I have any chance of getting one of the grad roles that I want. If so, how do you guys think I should proceed? Be as brutally honest as you want. I don't want to end up in a shitty operations career or something.
Thanks in advance.
