SEO - Diverse work force

Sponsors for Educational Opportunity - Career Program Internship
Since 1980, SEO has provided college students of color with paid, summer internships in competitive industries. Through training, mentoring, networking, and support, over 75% of eligible interns have received full-time offers. More than 30 years later, Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans are still underrepresented in many top entry level jobs.

It is well known that a diverse work force improves business results which makes SEO as relevant as ever to corporate America and to the groups that remain underrepresented.

During the summer interns earn a pro-rated salary consistent with entry-level salaries for professionals in the area they have chosen ($700 - $1,300 per week). Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA without exception. Thanks for the mention INC.com

Is this bull or what? 3.8 here, person of color (Indian), non target. I have seen kids from my school getting SEO offers and they are nothing less than retarded but they got in because they are black/hispanic. I even saw a white kid make it. This might be the shittiest program on earth. I am guessing Asians are not people of color anymore... (ends rant)

i didnt apply (didnt know what it was until after the deadline) but know many people who went through it. it's actually a great program that places you at a firm if you dont have an offer from one already (helps for nontarget students who otherwise would have zero opportunity to break in), provides extra training prior to your internship (have heard this is useless though), and gives you access to ridiculous networking opportunities (this is very strong; many of the SEO alum i know are very well connected to other SEO alum and they keep in touch regularly. very powerful network)

many of the people i met who did SEO were total duds and were no better than the other interns in their groups, so i cant imagine that the program turns you into a superstar performer or something (also doubt that its very difficult to get in), but the placement and networking benefits should be reason enough for you to apply and aggressively pursue it

applied, didn't even get a response. i even had a mba from columbia do my application lol. i have IB, management consulting, portfolio management, and s&t experience prior to the start of my junior year when i applied (in august) and have first rounds with 6 ib's that i got by myself as a non-target with no ocr. i know a kid from one of my classes who's a complete idiot (marketing major with 3.1 gpa) who got in and i am definitely playing the race card (yes he is black). sad shit , people who want it don't even get considered...

By persons of color, they really mean "underrepresented minorities." You're Indian, and thus not an underrepresented minority. Doesn't mean you aren't qualified or anything, just that they traditionally want black and Hispanic kids.
