SEO for Asians - Program hard to get in?
Is this program as hard to get into for Asians as simply applying to a BB through the regular application process? Natural logic would dictate that Asians competing with Asians would just lead to fiercer competition. The reason I'm really interested is because I really don't think I have a chance at being selected for a S&T internship at a BB as a rising sophomore. I go to a semi-target school (NYU Stern) and I have a 3.9 GPA. Any input is greatly appreciated. Once again, I'm not trying to "backdoor" my way in; I'm trying to find an opportunity to be able to work in S&T as soon as possible.
but you're not competing with asians - you're competing with everyone. as a rising sophomore...it's true that BB's don't really look for people straight out of freshman year. for that reason only could i see SEO being more beneficial. but in general, i think rising sophs should just chill during that summer and do a non-BB internship, to be taken more seriously next year, when sophomore programs are more abundant (but very competitive). i've never heard of a rising sophomore on the trading floor unless s/he was a child of a trader already working there...but i go to a liberal arts school so it might be different at business schools like stern.
seo is reputation risk, most of those seo people are weak interns, about 10% of seo get ft offers...
i heard about only 3-5% of seo is asian.. because asians in general don't need those kind of programs..
dude 213 posts and you sound so fucking dumb..yes im white...in my bank, most of the seo interns have been top notch caliber..98pct got offers from my bank..i dont know where the hell you get information from..but seo if u dont know has ivy league kids on their rosters
Talk about being it reputation risk! It is soo damn unfair. I had about 6 people who got in this year at my college and 2 of them deserved it. The rest all sucked up to the Alums and they therefore spoke highly of them to the SEO staffs and other senior Alums. It's all about the hook ups my friend. I interviewed with SEO last semester and I didn't get in. Oh yea, I'm asian.
I thought most of them do get ft offers. Getting into SEO is highly selective. Checkout the SEO alumni facebook group, and you'll see how many of them go to top schools.
Getting into a top school is not hard. Just gotta take the SAT and do well in HIGH SCHOOL classes.
You probably go to high school. Getting into ivy school requires so much more than that now. You need to do something pretty extraordinary nowadays.

if you want to know the true figure in all the banks..go on facebook and search for the seo group..then make your assumptions from there..
i would say about 35pct of the seo interns in my bank were asians
Guys, you're going off topic from my question. The reason I think SEO would be just as competitive as applying normally to BBs for asians is because SEO would probably only want a certain number of asians, blacks, latinos, etc each year? So would asians applying to SEO just be assessed against other asians?

initial d, depends when SEO recruits. If SEO recruits after ibanking, then its full of asian rejects from ibanking and so its not as competitve. If its same time or before IB recruiting, then I'm not sure. Regardless, competiting against everyone is more competitive than compeating against only asians. There are lots of smart/connected Jews, WASPs, etc.
actually SEO is earlier than IB recruiting or at the same time...its a very competitive process from what I have seen, although many posters on this board dismiss it...Asians competing against other asians does make it more difficult as asians tend to have very high statistics relative to other peer groups...

not asian, just looking at the numbers my buddy (he was asian) went up against - very tough competition at least at my school (target) for SEO
guess i should also clarify, i meant higher stats for the peer group - peer group being other minorities
slightly off topic...but I definitely think some of you all should get your facts straight before inputting about a program you obviously have no affiliation with. SEO is extremely competitive and has a very impressive offer rate...it is definitely NOT "reputation risk". SEO puts its interns through rigorous training even before they hit the street.
On topic, as a member of the program, I don't think the program is excessively competitive for Asians. If you have a decent resume, an interest in the industry and can interview well (including tackling case study questions), you should be fine.
