Series 4 - Options Principal

Hi All,

I am thinking of taking the Series 4 - Options Principal exam in 2018. Has anyone taken this exam? If so, can you please provide any feedback and how it stacks up against other FINRA exams in terms of difficulty? I passed the 7, 63, and most recently, the 57, all on the first try. If one had a good grasp on options in order to pass the 7 and 57, is that a good foundation for the 4?

Thanks.

Thanks, Kimbo. Would you (or anyone else reading this) know if it is more difficult than the 57 (or old 55)? I felt there was an enormous amount of detail for the 57.

I think the quantitative aspect of options (figuring out if a certain strategy if profitable or in the money given a specific market value) is pretty straightforward. However, is the 4 more focused on obscure CBOE rules and other such qualitative factors?

I've taken the 55 as well. I would say the 4 is the more difficult but definitely doable if you put some time into it. As an "options principal" you're tasked with supervisory responsibilities so yes more rules and regs (qualitative factors) go into it.

IF someone at your firm is letting you take the Series 4 or the 24 (pertains to equities), I don't think you'll have any issues passing the exam. Good luck.

Thanks, Kimbo. So, the 4 and 24 are more difficult than the 55/57? Too bad. I was hoping that the 57 was as difficult as it gets. But, since the 4 and 24 are principal exams, I guess I am not all too surprised.

Any preference for a prep course for the 4?

Thanks.
