Series 63 and which study material is most related to the exam?
Im getting ready to take the Series 63, I passed the Series 7 last month and i used STC. I noticed very similar questions there so now I'm just curious which series 63 material is most similar? Thanks
Knopman is much better than STC, so if you can pass using STC, you'd probably break the scoring machine using Knopman.
Knopman agree
Great thread, thank you.
I've used both knopman and stc - I used stc for the 63 and did fine. I do like the Knopman materials better overall though

I dont have a sponsor and would like to get into the finance industry. I have finance experience as a Administrative Assistant. Any help on preparing and studying for the test. Trying to get my foot in the door.
The series 63 is easy, getting it isn't going to get you a job and it won't impress anyone. Just network.

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post, but I'm selling my Series 63 study material. It's a 7th edition Knopman book, bought earlier this month for $180+fees, just wrote the exam and passed. Selling for $100. Must be able to pick up in Manhattan.

Series 63 advice (Originally Posted: 04/03/2017)
thanks to everyone's advice on here, I passed the Series 79! I now need to take the 63. The 79 covers way more material but the 63 i feel is a little tricky. Everyone question has two answers that could be correct. What are the study tips for the S63? I used Knopman for the 79, the real test I took was definitely easier compared to the Knopman practice test. Is that the same for the 63? Would really appreciate some advice.
wallstreet1, just go through the Knopman materials. I'd read the book, take notes, read those notes twice, and then go through the practice tests twice. The 63 really is tricky, so don't assume that the thin size of the prep book means the test is a cake walk,
wallstreet1 i used knopman for the 79 and stc for the 63 and both were good. Just make sure u study a solid week or 1.5 wks and you're good. Def don't underestimate the small size od the book
The above is good advice. I think I spent a solid 1.5 weeks studying for it (including two weekends) and the exam still did not seem easy when I took it. Of the material that I studied, almost all of it appeared on the actual exam, so I don't think I over studied, even though my score was relatively high.
In terms of study materials, I had Kaplan, which I liked because you could create custom exams on just one or two topics and could instruct the computer not to give you questions you had seen before. You also could see how many questions were in the question bank for each topic, so if it was a small/unimportant topic, I would do a smaller number of practice questions on it. This also ensured that I would have enough unused questions left over for some full length practice exams at the end.
In general, my method of studying was to skim a chapter in the book, do some practice questions on that chapter, review every question I got wrong (or had been unsure about), take notes/do additional reading related to why I got those questions wrong, and then repeat the process until I felt confident enough to move to the next chapter. I then capped it all off with multiple full length practice exams (notes/additional reading after those too). Since the Kaplan question bank is so large, I was able to do several full length exams without seeing a question I had seen before.
Everyone learns differently of course, but I hope this helps.
I was worried about taking the test but I shouldn't have been at all, if you study like people have said you should have no problems. I read the book, and took several practice test and scored above a 90. I studied for about 2 weeks, and once again Knopman is successful
Series 63 - What to concentrate on? (Originally Posted: 06/08/2010)
Not a lot has been said about the Series 63 and I will be taking it soon, so I wanted to get some advice from people that have taken and passed it. I'm studying the book by Robert Walker, Pass the 63. It seems to do a good job of explaining everything. The 63 definitely is focused on more law material and it looks annoying. How was it? And what should I concentrate on?
I'm still an UG and I hope to pass the 63 now because you can take it as an individual and then have a firm sponser me for the 7 later on.
Thanks for the help!
It's actually fairly easy. I got by taking the 3 hour Knopman class and spending 2 hours of my own solving questions. Not sure if you have access to Knopman through your firm, but that's definitely the way to go.

I used Walker and got an 86. You should be fine. Just make sure to focus on all the specific details - don't let Walker's sometimes casual/joking approach detract from the fact that things get very intricate. That said, a lot of the answers on the exam can be deduced on the test with common sense once you've got a good overall feel for the intentions of the various regulations. But yeah, the 63 is annoying as hell. At least the 7 is interesting.
Thanks. Yeah the 63 can't get any more boring haha.
63 is soooo boring. I studied from STC and passed it.
