Shirt color
Hello everyone,
A bit of background:
I have an trading interview coming for an oil and gas company. I am a very friendly person, who smile not too much but still easily. I want the suit to offset that impression and make me more serious. What shirt color? with a black suit would fit the best?
I am hesitating between a white shirt, a light blue silk shirt, a deeper silk blue shirt and a light purple blue shirt? I am going for a black suit and a white shirt, with a black tie. What do you think? Any other ideas? Should I wear something extra like suspenders? Appreciate your answers.

Which one are you talking about? The suspenders or the white shirt and black tie with the suit?
No black tie, no silk, no purple. Stick with white + normal tie.
Hey Gekko, don't ever wear suspenders. I would stick with a navy suit or dark grey/charcoal if I were you. White or light blue shirt and a conservative striped tie. Just my .02.

First off, black suits are not business suits, they are formal and only to be worn at night or for more formal events such as weddings. As others have stated, navy or dark grey/charcoal are appropriate. For an entry level interview don't do even do stripes.
Shirt: white, cotton, no french cuffs, no button down collar. The craziest you want to do is a herringbone design on a white shirt. You shouldn't wear silk shirts to finance jobs, especially if it contains anything near purple, ever.
Tie: conservative and never black. Undertakers wear black ties.
If you're doing an oil trading interview there's a good chance you're in Houston. They will laugh if you wear a purple blue silk shirt.

Thanks a lot. I really did not know about the blak suit. That's a first, but a big help. So I will go for a white shirt, charcoal. Actually, I wasn't thinking about wearing the purple or the blue silk one, I just kinda asked. But I am happy I did.
why do you even own suspenders? I feel the need to advise you not to wear seersucker either.
