Shoes & Ties
Hi guys..Need some of your input on what your favorite brands of dress shoes and ties are. Looking for nice/smart shoes and ties that aren't ridiculously priced..... Just an intern here!
Personally this is what my closet consists of:
-All 3 suits: Suit Supply
-Dress shirts: Charles Tyrwhitt & Brooks Brothers
-Ties: Charles Tyrwhitt & Michael Kors
-Shoes: Johnston and Murphy & Cole Haan
-Belts: Johnston and Murphy
All your comments are greatly appreciated. Specifically looking for shoes and ties!
Ties: Check out Ralph Lauren during end-of-season sales (the ones where you can take an extra 20-40% off of already discounted items). I've snagged multiple Black Label and Purple Label ties ($155 and $215 retail respectively) for $40-$50 each.
Shoes: Allen Edmonds from Nordstrom during their anniversary sales or one of their half-yearly sales. They'll set you back around $200 a pair, but they're practically indestructible and can last you 5-10 years if you take care of them. I know they might seem expensive now, but they're worth the investment.
Thanks a lot! Never even thought about Ralph Lauren for ties.. I'll def look into it. And yep- you're not the first to recommend Allen Edmonds. I guess it's time to check them out. Thanks a lot.
Also interested. Business formal internship, aka suit every day.
4 suits: navy, navy stripes, charcoal, light grey (is this okay? needed a forth i figured) 8 shirts: 3 shades of blue, 2 whites, and 3 various (all Lord & Taylors, need some nicer Brooks Brothers) shoes: consensus is Allen Edmonds Park Ave, but I am debating one of the cheaper AE's. Can't wait for a sale, and can't afford the more expensive. belts: perry ellis okay? ties: will stay here for recommendations.
I'm sure I will be looking like a summer intern for now, but I hope to at least look like an average summer intern.
I did an internship for Bloomberg here in Tokyo last summer, and that's the only time I've ever had to wear a suit. I bought a suit from Banana Republic. I had a little bit taken off here and there and it ended up looking so fine. I have one pair of Ferragamo shoes, and all of my ties are from Banana Republic, except for one really old Hermes tie from my Pops.
As an intern just buy the cheapest clothes that still fit well; spend the money you save on drinking when you go back to school.
Suits: Indochino.com , Bonobos.com Shirts: Brooks Brothers, Jos. A Bank, Kenneth Cole Ties: Tiebar.com, Ties.com Socks: Happysocks.com, Ralph Lauren (marshalls), Soxy Shoes: Cole Haan, Allen Edmonds
shoes: AE ftw
ties: non-outlet brooks brothers, and believe it or not, Tommy Hilfiger. they have a great thickness, tie really well, and hold up over time, even better than some of my more expensive ties. obviously if you're a baller, go zegna and brioni, but I'm assuming you're not there yet.

What shoes and ties does everyone where? I'll be interning on Wall street and just bought suit supply suits, one navy and one charcoal with Banana Republic slim fit shirts. I don't like the ties or shoes at BR or suit supply though.
Any suggestions that affordable?
If you work on Wall Street, you need to wear Ferragamo shoes and Hermes ties. Ferragamo ties works also.
