Should businesses moderate online debate?
Just read an article on the FT about online debate moderation on Facebook. Thought it may be an interesting source of discussion.
Facebook announced a small but meaningful change to its community guidelines in October. “We’re going to begin allowing more items that people find newsworthy, significant, or important to the public interest, […]Even if they might otherwise violate our standards.”.
The author argued that
Delete comments that are critical of refugees and you lose the opportunity for thoughtful conversation that could build empathy and change minds; if we do not hit delete it could alienate others.

Is there any room for open and thoughtful debate on social networks such as Facebook? Or will a looser moderation almost certainly end up in a disaster?
