Should I approach a family friend about an Internship

Hi guys

So I'm a freshman at university and I'm currently doing an accounting internship whilst studying.

My uncle has been friends with this guy for over 20 years and my dad knows him as well, he started his own HF a few years back and created a new ER/HF hybrid firm. I did work experience with his past HF twice, both being a week duration during my schooling. I made some good connections from there (still talk to probably two of the senior guys and they seem to really like me, not including my uncle's friend) and they gave me a company email.

Now said person has started a new HF/ER firm. It seems to be going pretty well so far. However a characteristic of this new firm is that it only employs the best ER and Buyside analysts, with not many junior analysts compared to other firms.

I also reached out and sent a message to this guy over LinkedIn and said thanks for the opportunity etc and if we could meet up for a coffee and chat and he snobbed me completely. I suspect he might not like me if he didn't get back to me at all and it makes me weary about approaching his firm. But at the same time he was nice to me and was happy to have me back for another week at his old firm and I wasn't a fuck head to anyone there and given the other partners liked me and still talk to me.

I asked my uncle if I should approach him about an Internship and he suspects the senior analysts aren't going to invest any time into a short-term intern and it would be difficult. This didn't instil me with much confidence.

My two questions to WSO is:

Should I bother trying to ask for an Internship at the firm given its business model of only having the best analysts and them probably not wanting to put too much time into me?

Secondly how should I approach this guy given he snobbed me on LinkedIn for an Internship?
