Should I attend Diversity Events???
I'm a sophomore at a non-target and gotten so many emails from firms telling me about their diversity "insight" days with accelerated recruiting for next summer.
I'm a pacific islander and most of the flyers say like "women" or "LGBTQ" or "Black/native american". Should I apply to attend these events anyway considering I may or may not be considered as diversity?
Diversity events are huge timeline accelerators for a lot of firms... From what I've heard you don't have much to lose just by applying. I know some people who were definitely NOT diversity who attended and got their applications expedited.
Has anyone attended one, whats it like? Any insight?
apply but obviously be truthful on the application
What I’d give to be so lucky to be considered a diversity hire
This isn't official advice, but how would a Native Pacific Islander not be considered similar to a Native American for the purposes of D&I initiatives?
good luck, but I’ve found they’re pretty stringent with that. I’m a European islander and have been rejected to every diversity event to which I’ve applied(non target keep that in mind)
Yeah, Great Britain or Ireland probably don't get you too far.
I think you're good to go. You're race doesn't have a high enough crime rate to be considered full diversity but I think companies will be lenient.
