Should I Mention Virginity Club Experience in Consulting Final Interview?
I run an Instagram account called @byuvirgin with over 33K followers. The account is satirical, and it claims to be a student club dedicated to promoting and preserving Virginity on college campuses. In reality, the account is a critique of purity culture and victim complexes.
This week I have a final round interview with a major consulting company, and one of the higher ranking interviewers specializes in media, television, and the entertainment industry. As it so happens, the Instagram account I run has been noticed by some television studios and I currently work in the comedy business as a paid consultant. The Instagram account has also had a significant number of merchandise sales (I won't say how much, but enough to pay for college).
I feel like this experience could be relevant to a consulting executive who works in media and TV, but the nature of the Instagram account is a bit juvenile and I worry it would do more harm than good.
Thoughts on whether this experience would be worth mentioning?
They're going to look at it after you mention it. 33k is very impressive, but if the content may be deemed "controversial" then I'd avoid it.
You can maybe say you run an Instagram account anonymously but don't like to publicly reveal the name for privacy reasons
Wanted to buy your merch. Gonna resupply soon?
