Should I quit my job while actively interviewing for others?

In the past few weeks, I have already made up quite a few excuses that gave me time to interview for a few jobs. However, in the next couple of weeks, I have another handful of jobs to interview for, and, at this point, it has become increasingly difficult to make more excuses about taking time off. In addition, I don’t want to butcher the relationship with people at my current employer because I will need their references. On the other hand, however, I am uncertain how these interviews will pan out, and quitting my job is risky because of this. Any ideas on how I should proceed?

Under no circumstances would I quit before obtaining another offer, otherwise you'll be at risk of being left unemployed in a tough economy.

The way I see it is its better to continue coming up with excuses (doctor appointments, being sick, etc) and your team judging you for taking some time off rather than taking the risk of quitting and potentially not even landing an offer from these interviews.

Just my opinion - best of luck!

Would second this, sticking it out at your current employer and burning some of your goodwill with your colleagues is the lesser evil vs. ending up unemployed in this environment because your processes for some reason didn't go through. Keep in mind that it is always easier to find a job when you already have a job.

I have had a couple of recruitment situations where I was 100% certain that things would go through and it was just a matter of formalities / time to get the deal done. Then suddenly unforeseen things happen that derail the process. It would definitely have sucked, if I had pulled the trigger too early on my resignation in these cases.
