Should I Take the Offer?
Hey guys. So with most people's IB internships coming to a close, I'd love to hear about how others have thought about making the decision to return FT.
For me personally, I'm interning at a BB in a decent group, but I'm still wondering if I could do better somewhere else. The team has been good to work for, but for the hours they work, dealflow isn't the greatest and placement in PE is somewhat lacking. That being said, the group is pretty much middle of the road at this bank so it could certainly be worse. At this point, I'm almost positive that I will receive an offer, but I'd love to put myself in the best position moving forward. How would you guys think about my situation?
I'm in college so can't be really helpful here, but do you know if return offers are typically exploding? Ie why couldn't you try recruiting and see what happens, but if you don't get an offer from a top firm then just accept the return offer?
Generally these offers explode within a couple weeks of being offered.
Just wanted to say that I respect you for not reneging and declining the other interviews. Most people wouldn't be able to do that.
Lateraling to a new group is very doable - you could do it 6 months into the job. Dick move but you could do it. Don’t risk it all because you don’t want to spend 6 months (basically a millisecond over the course of a career) at a mid tier BB. Time will fly once you’re out of college. 6 months is nothing. Don’t reject a full time offer at a BB
Fair enough. Do you think there would be anything wrong with beginning to start the process of lateraling before I start FT?
