Should I try and get off the waitlist to Columbia?
So I’m going to Cornell A&S next year majoring in math and econ, but was waitlisted to Columbia. Would it be worth taking Columbia over Cornell if I were super lucky and got off the waitlist? I am going to write letters of continued interest and see if I could get a recommendation from one of my contacts in Columbia’s graduate school, but it’s only worth it if I decide to take Columbia over Cornell. I’ll put some pros/cons of both if that helps.
Cornell Pros:
More flexibility (can get a minor in business)
More of my interests (Muay Thai classes, wine classes, horology club, etc.)
Get to go away (I live in queens ny)
Campus feel
Cornell Cons:
Seemingly depressing
Big classes
(Harder to get into HSW 2+2?)
Columbia Pros:
More prestige (barely matters ig they’re both Ivy)
Better math program (I want to do the Putnam exam)
In the city so I’m closer to home
Smaller school
(Easier to get into HSW 2+2?)
Lateral into an M7 later on
Columbia Cons:
Core curriculum
More competitive and less collaborative
Less of my interests
Should I just stick to Cornell? I want to go into banking out of undergrad and then maybe a quant hf after bschool
