Should I try to ask for an internship for a seemingly "rejected" job hiring decision?
Hi,
I will try to keep it short and sweet. Looking for some advice before I do something stupid.
Background
-
Graduated 5 years ago at semi-target
-
I currently work as commercial real estate broker (investment sales) but I'm very interested in development or asset management
-
I have my CFA charter but I'm not making much use of it at my current job so I really want to switch
Situation
-
There was a development job that I was really interested in. When they asked me to come for case interview last week I probably bombed it because development modeling is quite different that the valuation models that I'm used to (I usually underwrite existing properties). I really stumbled on the inputs.
-
They said they would get back to me early next week (ie. today). I haven't heard anything so I think I didn't get it.
-
They re-posted to the job posting on their website which leads me to believe they are redoing the search.
-
I know through conversations that they need someone quickly, and I really want to work there. Legitimate CRE development roles don't appear often.
Question
- Should I write an email asking if they would reconsider me as a temporary hire (3 to 6 months)?
- My argument is that if I don't work out they could look for someone long-term and not much time would be lost. Since they are doing the rehiring process again, it would take a similar amount of time.
I know the case interview was where I bombed it but I really want to salvage the situation. Whatever I screwed up on I can probably remedy in a short time, namely new industry terms etc..
