Should International students apply an internship position for a company will not give sponsor in the future?

I know several of my friends get offer from companies which will not give them sponsorship in the future. However, my professor told me most of the companies are looking for students who can work for them as full time employees, and the chance to get an internship in those companies are really small. Should I keep trying to apply and networking with those companies? Or should I only focus on companies that do sponsor in the future (But those companies are really competitive).

Does anyone have experiences or advice?

Thanks!

Disclaimer: I am an international student.

I would suggest focusing on companies that can sponsor you if you are talking about internships after your junior year. If you are talking about sophomore year or below, try get an internship anywhere. The reason for this is that most banks/companies will fill most of their FT classes from their summer interns- if you are not a summer intern at a bank/company that will sponsor you, there are very few FT spots that you will have a shot at, especially if you need visa sponsorship. Below junior year, the bank/company is not going to be extending you a FT offer anyway, so it doesn't matter whether they would sponsor a visa or not. That being said, if you can somehow get an internship with a bank/company that won't sponsor you when you graduate but you can't get one with a bank/company that will, definitely take what you can get and try again during FT recruiting.

Thanks for your advise! I am a junior and I guess I should focus on a firm that will sponsor me in the future. Did you already find a job? Do you think networking with professionals in the firms is also important for international students?
