Sick of my Group - Liberals

I work for a (Top 4) Canadian investment bank in their NYC office, sitting on their equity desk. The VP sits right next to me and an associate two seats down. This post isn't to ask for any advice but if I go through one more fucking day of them bitching about Trump all day, I'm going to fucking shoot myself. I need to leave this place. Too much liberals...

I'll never understand people talking politics at work. Like I can understand talking about dispassionately about the Presidency and the impact on the market, but talking politics is taboo.

Nothing you really can do though. If you were more senior you could tell them to take it outside, but you are just going to have to sit there and endure it.

Time to grow up, kid. Adults can discuss politics and engage with opposing views without wanting to "fucking shoot" themselves and needing to leave.

Also, it would be "too many liberals."

distance yourself from them if they ask for your opinion. even if you don't like Trump, talking politics is very much a no no. you never know when a client/MD might be walking by who is pro-Trump. if you can't be more of a centrist or look at things through the lens of markets, then God help you if you ever want to advance and be client facing.

ignore it

Ignore it. Politics at work is one of the worst things...besides being a pain in the ass, you never know who's listening and their political opinions on whatever. IMO even if the desk/group has an uniform political position, just leave it be, it's one thing less to care about.

On a somewhat different note, do you guys actually care about it? I used to be much more "annoyed" about other ppl's political preferences but to honest nowadays I don't sweat about it. I have my opinions and I know that is mostly useless to convince "the other side" anyway, so...just wanna do my stuff and make my money.

Not in the least. I have good friends and coworkers who lean right and good friends and coworkers who lean left. I care far more about their individual personality than where they get their news or what candidates they support. Also, we can joke around with each other and give each other shit for stupid things "their team" does. Grounded people are secure enough in their own believes that they don't get furious when confronted with opposing viewpoints.

I also typically don't interact with many extremists, not because they are extremists, per se, but because far right and far left individuals don't often get far in life. The close mindedness required for absurdist views like those doesn't mesh well with the open mindedness and critical thinking required for career advancement.
